Sugarhouse
Sugarhouse, Manila’s premiere cake shop has championed a tradition of good taste in cakes, pastries, and other delectable dishes for more than 27 years now. The first Sugarhouse opened in July 1983 on a 75 square meter lot on Anza Street, off Makati City. The small building housed a kitchen, bakery, display and customer area.
There was no advertising but soon customers were lining up for Peach Walnut Pie, Blueberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Truffle, Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Mousse, Black Magic and the ever popular French Apple Pie. Through word of mouth, the popularity of the little Cake Shop grew and more outlets were soon opened. By 1994, there were four stores and a new, more spacious Central Kitchen and Commissary in Mandaluyong.
With the establishment of Sugarhouse Central, we were able to serve institutional customers such as restaurants and other establishments. We also began to accept more made-to-order cakes for weddings, birthdays and other special occasions. The original cakes and pies first sold in Anza Street have now been joined by 20 other varieties including a selection of cookies, breads andother pastries. In response to the demand for healthier alternatives, sugarfree versions of some of our bestsellers were introduced.
To complete the menu, soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta and “real meals” were added. Specialties such as Callos and Beef & Chicken Salpicado keep our customers coming back for more. Recent additions to the menu such as the Sugarhouse Club, Baked Pork Spareribs, Beef Ribs in Beer Stew, Roasted Pumpkin & Garlic Soup, and the Sugarhouse Chopped Salad have gained a following as well.
In 2008, Sugarhouse went into major expansion, opening 9 new stores. Three of these are kiosks offering mainly cakes, pastries, beverages, and a few light meals. One branch at the Interior Zone in SM North, is a limited-menu restaurant while the rest are full service dine-in restaurants. At present, there are a total of 15 Sugarhouse branches, including one in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
There has never been a better time to come home to good taste. Come home to Sugarhouse.
