Paparazzi
Italian gastronomy continues to inspire the world over. Paparazzi, the 17-year-old Italian restaurant of the EDSA Shangri-La Manila is no exception. Its warm mahogany interiors and Murano accoutrements provide an intimate and elegant ambience.
For starters, a particularly noteworthy dish is the char-grilled prawn and scallop skewer on fennel with tropea onion and orange salad. The succulence of the scallops are a match for the juiciness of the prawns; their flavours accentuated by the tropea onions and fennel.
Another course that is particularly tantalizing is the tortellini filled with homemade slowly braised lamb shank with saffron taleggio cheese fondue, served with a reduced lamb sauce and finished with truffle foam. The richness of the dish will pleasantly surprise yet not overwhelm. The cheese and truffle lead the palate on a European sojourn one will soon not forget.
For the main course the char-grilled beef tenderloin on wilted spinach served with a nice creamy polenta cake and roasted red bell peppers is simply spectacular. The tender meat is complemented quite nicely with the spinach and creamy polenta. The scrumptious dish has been perfected by executive chef, Geoffrey Paul Simmons and Italian Chef Salvatore De Vincentis. They have persevered in providing authentic Italian cuisine in the Philippines.
End the meal with a beautiful mille-feuille of strawberries layered with a rich chocolate cream. The macerated strawberries immediately attract the eye with its bright hues. Indeed chocolate and strawberries are always a good combination. Ultimately, if you are in search of a truly satisfying Mediterranean experience, look no further than Paparazzi at the EDSA Shangri-La Manila.
