Old Manila at the Peninsula
Nothing is old about the setting in Old Manila, situated inside The Peninsula Manila with colourful Filipino paintings adorning the walls to give a warm and modern ambience. The food is delightful and memorable. The bread selection is simply fabulous and a great way to start your dining experience. The duo of white and green asparagus, truffles vinaigrette, shaved Parmesan and crispy pancetta is wonderful. The dish is light and healthy, yet packed with great flavours. Equally pleasing is the lobster bisque with cogna with sauce rouille, Gruyére hazelnuts and Manchego cheese.
A good selection of main courses is available, the surf and turf being simply excellent. The US Angus beef mignon and king prawns are grilled to perfection and of the highest quality. Equally good are the fresh seasonal vegetables that accompany each main course. For dessert the caramelised lemon tart with fresh clotted cream and mixed berries is tangy and tasty and the ménage of fruit sorbet comprised three distinctive and creative sorbet flavours that are a perfect end to a memorable dining experience.
The Peninsula has a very large list encompassing wines from all over the world. A friendly conversation with the sommelier, Gil, is recomended as he will help you choose a wine by the glass to best complement each dish. Their service is very professional, friendly and charming. It is value for money given the quality of food and service.
Their signature dishes are Lobster mousseline (Poached in its broth with asparagus, preserved lemon, lobster oil) and
Fines de Claire oysters served naturally with classic mignonette dressing or Rockefeller - grilled with spinach gruyére and breadcrumbs.
