The Mind Museum

Anyone, no matter how old, educated or well-read, will discover reasons to marvel at the newly opened The Mind Museum at Bonifacio Global City—the first world-class science museum in the country. With over 250 interactive exhibits to view and try out, even indifferent adults will find themselves thoroughly enjoying relearning about the human brain, solar system, and evolution in ways they never did in grade school.

Sure to win the interest of children is Aedi, an anthropomorphic robot positioned at the front of the facility. Aedi, which is “idea” spelled backwards, introduces visitors to the museum and informs them on what lies ahead. The first stop, aptly named Hall of 10 Most Beautiful Experiments, is a visual set of displays based on the book The Prism and the Pendulum: 10 Most Beautiful Experiments in Science by Robert Crease. A couple of steps away is the Hall of Philippine Science: digital photographs featuring local scientific endeavors like sustainable communities, rice culture, and Filipino scientist.

Further in, the Mind Museum is divided into five main galleries: Atom, Earth, Life, Universe, andTechnology. Highlights include the life-sized replica of a tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, the giant lit-up human brain model, a “hair-raising” static machine, and a dizzying tunnel en route to the Universe Gallery. The second floor, which houses mostly Technology exhibits, also holds a fun toilet display and an interactive presentation of an archaic printing press. If you miss playing Pong or Pacman, you will also find a row of arcade consoles illustrating how video games changed through the years. The museum also houses an auditorium, a laboratory, and classrooms. Outside, the Science-in-the-Park setup allows visitors to experience playful science through four-themed pockets: Music, Math, Living, and Water.

To enhance the experience, technology giant, Sony Philippines, provided top-of-the-line and state-of-the-arts gadgets such as Bravia LCD television sets, touch screen VAIOs, and 3D Projector Systems. The rest of the exhibits are privately sponsored.
